Russia has accused the United States of using NATO as an excuse to join western Russia and set up a military defense system there. Which is 100% true.

Ukraine was part of Russia. Russia split in 191, and Ukraine became a separate state. After becoming a separate country, Ukraine and Russia had very good relations. So good that in the 19th NPT treaty Ukraine gave all its nuclear weapons to Russia. This means that in the 18th century, Ukraine did not feel threatened by Russia. The most widely spoken language in Ukraine is Russian and culturally Ukraine is close to Russia. Just as Nepal and Bhutan are situated between India and China, so Ukraine is situated between Europe and Russia. In addition, Russia supplies about 60% of Europe's total gas supply through a pipeline from Ukraine. That is why the geographical importance of Ukraine increases.
