Hallmarking on jewelry will be required from June 1, understand all the accounts before buying gold

Hallmarking, which guarantees the purity of gold jewelery, will now become mandatory. It is planned to be implemented across the country from next month. From June 1, only BIS hallmarked gold jewelery will be on sale. The rules attached to it will come into force from this day.

This will prevent the consumer from falling prey to fraud in buying jewelery. However, given Corona's transition, there is no complete certainty about the preparations for its implementation from June 1. But it is bound to be inevitable.

After hallmarking, only 14, 18 and 22 carat jewelery will be sold.  Hallmarking will have the seal and carat information of BIS.  It will have the date of manufacture, year and name of the jewelery.  The BIS hallmarking system is in line with international standards.  This hallmarking will greatly increase the transparency in the gold jewelery business.

Penalties and punishments for violating the rules

Old jewelry can now be hallmarked.  This can be done by going to any hallmarking center.  However the hallmarking fee for old jewelry will be a bit higher.  You can get a little lower price by selling jewelry without hallmarking.

There is also a penalty for tampering with these hallmarking rules.  If the jewelers commit fraud, they can be fined from Rs 1 lakh to five times the price of the jewelery.  Imprisonment can be up to one year with fine.

The government has also launched the BIS Care app for investigation.  It also has the facility of complaint along with accuracy check.  Can complain about misinformation related to hallmarking.
