The Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT) is a leading state body working to expand the scope of quality education in primary and secondary schools.
Before the year 19, it was known as the State Institute of Education. As per the resolution of the education department in the 12th state, it was converted into SCERT. This SCERT which is now GCERT. It is a fully structured educational institution at the state level and is governed by a steering committee and an executive committee.
On the 19th, GCERT was taken from Ahmedabad to the capital Gandhinagar. The state education department has allotted separate land for GCERT in Sector-17. Therefore, the newly constructed building in GCERT Sector-17 has been functioning in Vidya Bhavana since 31st August 2009. Where innovative infrastructure and advanced equipment are available.
Under the umbrella of GCERT now ૨૬ DIET District Education and Training Bhavan (District Institute of Education and Training) is functioning in 6 districts. These institutes provide pre-service and in-service training to the primary teachers of the state. These institutions have seven branches. Such as Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE), Work Experience (WE), District Resource Unit (DRU), Curriculum Material Developer and Evaluation (CMDE), Educational Technology (ET) in Service Field Interaction (ICE) Management (PM) These DIETs have qualified and experienced academic and administrative staff.

GCERT is the main body for implementing state education policies, programs and research. It provides support and guidance to all teacher education institutions. GCERT works in collaboration with NGOs, subject matter experts, academics and seeks to bring about change in the inter-district districts of the state. Disseminates up-to-date trends and information on primary education, pre-service and post-service education, progress in education in the nation, teaching methods. Widely used as a medium of distance education training aimed at innovative subjects, organizing social awareness programs and improving the curriculum of primary education. The state education department also consults GCERT. The council is committed to improving the quality of school education. Curriculum development, especially in the field of primary education, seeks to find appropriate solutions to educational challenges in the field of teaching materials and assessment methods. GCERT has made a unique journey from the chowk to the satellite in a creative way and has faced tough challenges in the field of educational reform.
