It is a recognized fact that information and communication technology (ICT) can help societies to increase sustainable socio-economic transformation. In order to reach a privileged society under ICT benefits global, there is also a need to bridge the digital divide. With its extensive experience addressing digital segmentation, India is also facilitating a number of emerging economies by expanding IT infrastructure, networking, capacity building, human resource development and e-government technical assistance. In addition, electronics and information technology have been geared up to promote international cooperation in emerging and frontier areas, to explore ways to increase investment and address regulatory practices, to promote sustainable development and to strengthen synergetic partnerships with other countries.

Government acted as a facilitator, promoter and motivator for the purposes of ICD objectives and activities:

• To assist cooperative industries with industries from other countries to create a conducive environment for international cooperation;

• Encourage and promote the research and development of applications related to electronics and information technology;

• Coordinate technical and policy issues with international organizations / organizations like UN, WSIS, World Bank, WTO etc.

• Initiating programs for joint project organizations such as software parks, joint R&D and facilitating electronics / IT consultancy etc .;

• Sponsoring and sponsoring trade fairs, symposiums and exhibitions showcase India's ICT strength in the world.
