The most popular story behind Holi's belief is Prahlaad and Hiranyakashipuni.
It is said that at one time a powerful monster was King Hiranyakashipu who believed in God himself and wanted that people worship him.
But his son Prahlad refused to accept him as God and he began to worship Lord Vishnu.
After persuading many times even when Prahlad did not understand, Hirayakashipu thought of a trick to kill Prahlad
He told his sister Holika that he would enthrall Prahlaad in the lap and enter the fire, because Holika had a blessing that the fire would not be able to burn him.

It is said that Prahlad was rewarded with his unimaginable devotion and Holika had to pay the cost of his own maladministration.
It means that Holika burned in the fire, and Prahlad survived.
